Bettner College & Career Consulting’s mission is to empower and guide you as a student on your career and higher education path! I will assist you with career assessment, college planning, and admission advising in an individualized environment that cultivates personalized guidance, strategic insights, and targeted support. In the stressful process of college search and applications, I am a voice of calm, clarity, wisdom, and compassion.
With continuous changes in the college admissions landscape and a surge in applications and cost, the admissions process has become much more complex and a potentially large financial investment. As a result, navigating this process and finding a right fit college can be an overwhelming task for both students and parents. However, with the right approach and guidance this can be a harmonious learning and growth time for students as they find a right fit college to thrive.
I strive to inspire confidence, promote self-discovery, and facilitate informed decisions. My hope is that each student achieves their academic aspirations and fulfills their potential in a purposeful and fulfilling way.
Active listening, clear communication, and project management have helped me in my business consulting practice for the last 30 years. I will strive to share nuggets of encouragement and growth in each meeting in addition to the nuts and bolts of the selection and admissions process. I am based in Indiana and can work in person locally or virtually with any student around the US. I have lived and travelled in many states and abroad and have a wide knowledge of colleges. I am most familiar with my undergraduate college - Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, CA. I also did some graduate work at UC Davis and I am in the process of completing my Independent Education Consultant Professional Certificate at UC Irvine. I have successfully guided my three children in their college planning and application process and they attended Purdue University (IN), Hope College (MI), and Western Theological Seminary (MI). Our youngest child is in the process of applying to colleges in North Carolina, California, and Kentucky.
In order to stay current in the field, I study the latest developments and trends, and I visit college campuses regularly both in-person or virtually. Ethics, training, collaboration and standards are very important to me so I am a member of the professional organization - Independent Educational Consultants Association.
My process entails assessing the student’s strengths, potentials, talents, academic goals, and making recommendations on student’s curriculum/course selection, standardized testing, extracurricular activities, college exploration/interactions, developing strategies, and compiling a well-balanced list of suitable colleges, and eventually guiding students to craft applications than can help them stand out in the applicant pool.
I can help ascertain the right programs and the best fit colleges for students based on their unique needs and interests. I believe that each student is unique with different abilities, interests and learning styles. With thoughtful planning I can help you achieve your academic and career aspirations in a right fit collegiate setting.
